Different Strokes in Swimming

This stroke is also referred to as "front crawl". Freestyle is the most popular style of swimming amongst beginner learners.

 

This stroke is all about the streamlined form. The hands slice through the water at 45 degree angles, then pull the water backward and away to propel the swimmer forward, whilst legs perform the flutter kick.

 

This is one of the fastest strokes, and a crowd-favourite!

This stroke is also referred to as "back crawl".

 

This swim form is likened to the opposite of the freestyle, as the swimmer demonstrates the same flutter kick motion, by lying on his/her back.

 

The head is faces the sky as the arms move in a backward motion,toes are pointed with knees bent at a minimum. Force should be exerted from the thighs. 

 

In backstroke the thumb comes out of the water first at 90 degrees and the pinky is first to hit the water.

Breaststroke is usually the first stroke we impart to our beginners.

 

Breaststroke focuses on the streamlined gliding motion as the swimmer cuts through the water seamlessly with minimal water resistance.

 

In Breaststroke, your hands are under the water surface throughout the swim with your arms only breaking the surface of the water.

 

This stroke is all about coordination between your arm and leg movements and your breathing sequence. 

It is quite similar to the motion that of a dolphin. In this stroke, one uses both hands to enter and break the surface of the water.

 

Butterfly stroke one of the more challenging strokes, and are usually not taught to beginner swimmers who are just starting out on basic swim strokes and technique. 

 

Butterfly involves perfect timing, coordination, core engagement and strength. Many swimmers find this the most difficult stroke of the four.
